Today my friends, we are going to talk about something that all of us deal on a daily basis “STRESS!” that overwhelming anxiety, the tight muscles in your neck, that throbbing headache, your heart races, you can’t sleep because your mind is spinning, and feeling that can’t take deal with one more problem!
How many times have you said or thought if one more thing goes wrong I’m going to lose my mind? Well, I know what it feels like and if you like most people do you too! So let’s talk about some natural ways that can help you make it through those unbearable times, maybe it’s financial problems or that your stressful job where the boss expects the impossible from you!
It affects millions of people in the US every year and if not treated can cause some serious health problems. Health professionals encourage people to integrate some natural stress busters into their daily routine to reduce stress and improve their quality of life. How many times have you heard someone say “just relax,” well that is easier said, than done.
When you are stressed, your body responds as though you are in danger. It makes hormones that speed up your heart, make you breathe faster, and give you a burst of energy. This is called the fight-or-flight stress response.
Many studies have proved that severe or prolonged stress can put an extra burden on your immune system, strains the heart, cause pre-mature aging, damages memory cells in the brain, and can cause weight gain by causing deposits of fat at the waist according to Dr. Bruce S. McEwen, MD, director of the neuroendocrinology laboratory at the Rockefeller University in New York.
Chronic stress has also been linked to type 2 diabetes, asthma, allergies, migraine headaches, increased rate of miscarriage, and digestive disorders. Recently researchers at UC San Francisco say they have found the first direct evidence that severe and chronic emotional stress can age people biologically.
It is very important for you to know whatever you health concern might be that stress can be reduced and controlled without dangerous medications and drugs.
Her are some stress busters that just might help you control some of that stress and anxiety:
1. Get regular exercise: Physical activity, even in small increments, but done on a regular basis, has been shown to increase the production of endorphins, which are the “feel-good” neurotransmitters in the brain. Not everyone has the time to do a long workout, but that’s okay, just take a few minutes every day if possible and take a short, brisk walk or even take a few minutes to do a few stretches every day can alleviate anxiety, stress and mild depression.
2. Eat balanced, healthy meals: Don’t skip meals, regulate your intake of simple carbohydrates such as sugar, and eat several small meals throughout the day instead of large meals. This will stop your blood sugar from a spiking or dropping drastically throughout the day which can cause dramatic mood changes which in turn lead to anxiety and stress.
3. Eat your fruits and veggies: When you are stressed your body releases free radicals so eat some blueberries or an orange for a boost of vitamin C. Research has shown that vitamin C helps to prevent damage to your cells caused by free radicals. By increasing your intake of Vitamin C it will help protect the body from the cumulative effects of stress,” says Erin Palinski, registered dietician and member of the Nutritional Advisory Board for the College of Saint Elizabeth.
Eating good nutritious foods such as organic that are free from additives, preservatives, and chemicals is also an important factor since it is proven that the more toxicity we accumulate causes damage to our health and definitely adds to the stress and damage to the cells from free radicals.
4. Improve your time management skills: Learn to say “No” to people. Remember we can only do so much and if you become a door mat and a “Yes” person then you will suffer the consequences which will be your health and well-being. It is said that, “If you don’t learn to manage your time, it will manage you!” Knowing your limitations is probably one of the best stress busters!
