Today my friends, as I had promised I would like to discuss some natural remedies that can help control diabetes. I would not recommend anyone with diabetics to do any treatment without first consulting your health care provider and with their supervision. These natural treatments that are being explored for type 2 diabetes and if diabetes is not properly controlled, the consequences can be life-threatening.
According to the American Diabetes Association, of the millions of people in the United States that have diabetes about 90 to 95% having type 2 diabetes.
First Let’s Talk About What is type 2 diabetes?
Type 2 Diabetes is a chronic and lifelong disease marked by high levels of sugar in the blood. Diabetes mellitus type 2 formerly non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) or adult-onset diabetes is a metabolic disorder that is characterized by high blood glucose in the context of insulin resistance and relative insulin deficiency. Diabetes is often initially managed by increasing exercise and dietary modification. If the condition progresses, medications may be needed.
Sugar, in the form of glucose, is the main source of fuel for body cells. The hormone insulin allows glucose in blood to enter cells. In type 2 diabetes, either the body doesn’t produce enough insulin or cells are resistant to effects of insulin.
As a result, glucose builds up in the blood instead of entering cells, which causes cells to be deprived of energy. If high glucose levels in the blood persist, it may damage the eyes, heart, kidneys, or nerves.
Natural Ways to Control Diabetes:
1. Cinnamon: Most of us love cinnamon. Cinnamon does more than just taste good, it can help prevent or lower blood sugar. The great part about cinnamon is it so easy to add to your diet. Eg.–You use cinnamon sticks and just add them to hot water. I would recommend using organic because of the known chemicals such as additives and preservatives added to many conventional cinnamon products. You can also take on an organic cinnamon supplement if you organic choose.
So, if you are part of a high-risk population, everyday intake of cinnamon can help you prevent its onset. If you are diabetic and have type 2 diabetes, cinnamon can help you reduce your high blood sugar levels. Results of various research studies speak more than words, you should know about how cinnamon works, how safe it is, and other information before using it.
Even type 1 diabetics can benefit from cinnamon intake, reducing their high blood sugar levels. It is true cinnamon doesn’t increase the pancreas insulin production, because it doesn’t produce it at all. However, cinnamon may slow down the emptiness of your stomach, preventing your blood glucose reach the high peak. To read more about cinnamon the benefits click here.
2. Vitamin C: Also known scientifically as ascorbic acid. In one study carried out by a turkish team in Yeditepe University, researchers has concluded that ascorbic acid supplementation has important antagonizing effects on oxidation stress and lipid peroxidation in patients with type 2 diabetes.
Taking the polyphenol-rich antioxidant supplement (vitamin C) might be beneficial in preventing cardiovascular complications too.
3. Aloe Vera: A number of promising studies have suggested that Aloe Vera gel may be useful in managing diabetes naturally. As a dietary supplement compounds in Aloe are thought to stimulate the production of insulin and enable the body to process glucose more efficiently. One to three teaspoons of fresh Aloe gel may be taken daily to help regulate blood sugar levels. For more info check out: Click to learn more about he benefits of Aloe Vera and Diabetes
4. Garlic and Onions: Since the ancient times garlic and onion have been used for it taste and its many culinary benefits. We are again realizing the many natural health properties of garlic and onions, controlling diabetes is one of them. Onions should be eaten raw because cooking can make them loose their valuable compounds. The benefits of a diabetic taking garlic and onions consist not only in lowering high blood sugar level, but also can provide you with a healthy blood circulation.
I would as always recommend that you inform your health-care provider about any herbs, supplements, or natural treatments you are using, because some may interact with the medications you are taking and result in hypoglycemia unless properly coordinated. It would also be good idea to consider keeping track of your herbs, vitamins, and supplements with the Supplement Diary and giving your doctor a copy. This can help them and you to see what is helping you and hopefully some of these suggestions will benefit, controlling your diabetes and being healthier.
